Did you know? -
Polyurethane foam and polyester are made of petroleum products that emit toxic fumes. These fumes have been known to cause serious allergies as well as problems for the immune and reproductive systems. Toluene and formaldehyde are carcinogens that can irritate the eyes and skin. Flame retardants contain polybromiated diphenyl (PDBE), which causes irreversible damage to children's nervous systems and brain development. |
Q. What type of mattress should I buy for my baby?
There are definitely a lot of different mattresses to choose from on the market today. You have latex, cotton, wool, tufted, quilted, non-innerspring and innerspring. Not to mention all the choices for coil count. Just like adult mattresses though, most of it is personal preference. The most important thing to keep in mind is firmness. You want the mattress to be firm enough so that your baby doesn't sink down into the mattress which might cause suffocation problems. A nice firm, flat mattress also helps to keep the bedding tight across the mattress. As far as fit, make sure the mattress fits snugly next to the crib. You should not be able to fit 2 adult fingers in between the mattress and the crib.

Did you know that most people are NOT allergic to wool?
They are actually having a painful response to the course prickly fibers. Some people are more sensitive to this than others. Why are wool fibers so course? It's because of the carbonizing required to remove excess vegetable matter from the wool. It makes the wool fibers weak and then they split, becoming prickly. Also the shorter the fibers are, the better the chance of prickle because there are more fiber ends per unit of fabric. The wool used in our products does NOT go through the carbonizing process. Only wool that is free from prickly vegetable matter is used so that no carbonizing is required. The fibers used in our products are never short! This results in a much softer wool that does not cause prickle.
